Tilak / Tikka in Sikhism

Just to share this with our fellow sikhs who think Tilak / Tikka is prohibited in Sikhi.

Tilak in Sikhism

Tilak Tikka in Sikhism

Baba Buddha Ji (Punjabi: ਬਾਬਾ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਜੀ) (1506-1631) is recognized as one of the great Sikhs of the Guru period. He had the privilege of being blessed by the first six Gurus. He led an ideal Sikh life for more than a hundred years. He was one of closest companions of the guru Nanak (the first Guru of Sikhism) and is one of the most revered and sacred saints in Sikhism. He holds one of the most important and pivotal positions in Sikh history. The first head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Baba Budha applied Tilak/Tikka to five Sikh Gurus, from Guru Angad Dev to Guru Hargobind. Tikka was applied to the foreheads of 7th, 8th and 9th Sikh Gurus by Baba Gurditta Randhawa, grandson of Baba Buddha ji. This ceremony in the case of 10th Sikh Guru was performed by Ram Kanwar Randhawa alias Gurbakhsh Singh.

  1. Good article. Sanatan Sikhi is an Advaita Vedanta version from Sanatan Dharma Hinduism allows all processes of thoughts & philosphies – you can worship Hari with his many forms or No form, Shiva who is Mahakal or Akaal – Sikhs today ought to accept the truth as we have been taken for a ride by so called historians who have tried to divide us from our Hindu roots. All our Gurus were Hindus – even Teg Bahadurji claimed he was a Hindu who will never accept Islam for the ‘sacred Tilak & thread’. This sentence has become misinterpreted by neo sikhs to cover this up by claiming that the Guru died for Hindus. If he was so against Hindus at the time & a Kattar Sikh why would he die for them in the first place? Plse understand the truth behind every line of what the message of Gurus was. Sikhism was fored during Hindu Bhakti movement of India.
Plse keep exposing the neo-sikhs who have hijacked the Vedanta philosophy of Sanatan Sikhi.
    Vaheguruji ka Khalsa
    Vaheguruji ki Fateh
    Fateh Darshan

  2. very good article!
Its all coming to light, tht sikhi is a part of sanatan dharam. And its getting the akj, ddt, sgpc, neo-singh sabhas and anti nihang sikhs worried. they must be pissing their pants right now!

  3. That is right. Baba Budha ji applied Tilak to 5 Gurus but have enjoyed the blessings of 6 Sikh Gurus including the founder of Sikh religion-Guru Nanak Dev ji but why don’t you forget these Hindu rituals were restricted to be followed by 10th Guru Gobind Singh ji?
We are Sikhs not Hindus so certainly to have our independent and sovereign identity as a Sikh, we shall have to give up the Hindu rituals and customs being followed by all people in Indian sub-continent for centuries.
Hinduism is a life style, not a religion as its not having one religious book or any founder.
The 10th Guru, created Khalsa from Sikhs-his followers by baptizing them through Amrit ritual prepared by reciting five Baanis which are the essential part of all Khalsa as daily Nitnem and that who does not have faith in Amrit ritual and five baanis can not be called a Khalsa.
