Upset at the hearing of criminal cases against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the CBI Special Court, a follower allegedly shot himself in the temple outside the courts here this evening. The incident occurred shortly after the dera chief left at about 3.30 pm after appearing before the CBI Court in Ambala through video-conferencing.

The police found Vinod (28), a local resident, dead in a Maruti 800 car parked outside the courts. The car had a “press”sticker on the windscreen.The police recovered a pistol and a suicide note from the vehicle.

The note said that he was upset at the hearing of cases against the “Guruji” on a daily basis, said DSP Pooran Chand Panwar.

The dera followers have raised a tent outside the courts. Those accompanying the dera chief’s cavalcade wait for him under this tent.

The entry of comman people inside the court complex is barred once the dera chief arrives there and remains so till he leaves.

The dera chief is facing trial in the Ram Chandra Chhattarpati murder case, former dera follower Ranjit Singh’s murder case and a case regarding the alleged exploitation of a former dera sadhvi.The court began hearing the cases on a daily basis from January 5 this year. The decision triggered opposition from the dera followers who started holding angry protests outside the court.

The CBI court, on an application filed on behalf of the dera chief, exempted him from personal appearance for six days on January 25.

Today, the prosecution had to provide evidence in the Chhatarpati murder case. However, the case was adjourned to March 28 as Jai Pal, a policeman who was to depose before the court, had to appear before another court today.

Curfew was clamped on Bhikhi town of Mansa district following a clash between hundreds of followers of hardline Sikh preacher Baljeet Singh Daduwal and the police force drawn from various districts this afternoon.

It was a free-for-all as radicals hurled stones at police personnel, who countered them by resorting to firing, lathicharge, throwing bricks, lobbing tear gas shells and using water cannons.

In the violent episode that lasted for over an hour, a large number of radicals and policemen, including their senior officials, sustained injuries. As the rampaging Sikh radicals started damaging police vehicles, the police retaliated in the same way and damaged a number of tractors belonging to the hardliners.

Though the IG (Bathinda zone), the DIG (Bathinda range), the SSP (Mansa) and the AIG (Intelligence) led the force from the front, policemen found themselves outnumbered and were forced to go on the back foot.

Tension had been simmering in the town for the past two days, as the hardliners, under the leadership of Sant Baljeet Singh Daduwal, had been performing a “samagam” (a religious congregation) in the town. Followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda had expressed apprehension before the police suspecting that he would speak against dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim. After Daduwal assured the police that he would not speak anything objectionable, the police allowed him to hold the programme.

However, dera followers took an exception to some words that Daduwal used against their religious head on Saturday. Though the timely action by the police averted a clash between them on Saturday, both groups asked their supporters to assemble at Bhikhi today.

As hundreds of dera followers assembled on the main road here this morning, the police, as a preventive measure, rounded up Daduwal from Gurdwara Jandalisar, located near Kotshamir in Bathinda district, and took him to some undisclosed place.

As the information reached Daduwal’s followers, who were waiting for him at the place of congregation, they turned aggressive and started assembling on the road. The situation turned tense when members of both groups started moving towards each other brandishing weapons.

Meanwhile, a contingent of the police force reached the spot and positioned itself between the two groups. Water cannons and anti-riot vehicles were also stationed there to prevent a clash.

As the senior police officials initiated negotiations, dera followers demanded that Daduwal should not enter the town and that the “samagam” should not take place. On the other hand, Sikhs were reluctant to leave the place before the dera followers did so and their leader Daduwal was released.

Somehow, police officials managed to persuade dera followers to return to their places and vacate the road, but hardliner Sikhs, who were getting aggressive, went out of control. After the police officials denied their demand of bringing Daduwal amid them, they turned violent. Initially, they damaged a police vehicle and a shop located nearby.

When the police resorted to lathicharge, they turned more aggressive and started hurling stones at policemen, injuring some of their senior officials also. The policemen then resorted to water cannons, tear gas shells and even retaliated by throwing bricks at radicals.

As the radicals broke into groups and started attacking the police from various corners, streets and even from the roofs of buildings located nearby, police personnel found themselves outnumbered.

Finding the situation turning ugly, the Deputy Commissioner, Mansa, imposed a curfew in the town and the police resorted to firing. The situation was somehow brought under control.

More than 12 Sikh radicals were arrested and Daduwal was not released from the police custody till the filing of this news report. Curfew was prevailing in the town and an operation was still on to arrest other Sikh radicals.

Inspector-General of Police (Bathinda zone) Nirmal Singh Dhillon said, “As the operation is still on, the actual number of those arrested and those who sustaining injuries cannot be confirmed.”

Tilak Tikka in Sikhism

 Baba Buddha Ji (Punjabi: ਬਾਬਾ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਜੀ) (1506-1631) is recognized as one of the great Sikhs of the Guru period. He had the privilege of being blessed by the first six Gurus. He led an ideal Sikh life for more than a hundred years. He was one of closest companions of the guru Nanak (the first Guru of Sikhism) and is one of the most revered and sacred saints in Sikhism. He holds one of the most important and pivotal positions in Sikh history. The first head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Baba Budha applied Tilak/Tikka to five Sikh Gurus, from Guru Angad Dev to Guru Hargobind. Tikka was applied to the foreheads of 7th, 8th and 9th Sikh Gurus by Baba Gurditta Randhawa, grandson of Baba Buddha ji. This ceremony in the case of 10th Sikh Guru was performed by Ram Kanwar Randhawa alias Gurbakhsh Singh.

The fight broke out at the Guru Nanak Sikh Centre at Glidden Rd. near Hwy 410 and Steeles Ave. when one group tried to break up the other group’s meeting. It started as a fistfight but witnesses say turbans soon flew and hammers, machetes and construction knives were brandished as a group of about 100 people clashed at about 3:45 p.m.

The fight spilled outside as Peel Regional Police scrambled to take control, said witnesses.

“It was quite chaotic,” said Jagdish Grewal, editor of Punjabi Post, a newspaper published in Brampton, who arrived minutes after the fight broke out and saw two men lying outside with a bloodied hammer between them. Others were being given first-aid and taken to hospital.

Inside the hall, where the scuffle happened, Grewal said knives and machetes were still lying on the floor along with torn blood-soaked clothes. “There was blood too on the tiles,” Grewal told the Star.

At heart is the control of the temple but no one will say that openly.

The management was not available to comment on Sunday’s violence but members of the temple said trouble had started brewing a couple of days earlier when the group opposing the management announced that it would hold a meeting inside the temple.

“All we wanted was to have a meeting to discuss matters of the temple,” said Rampal Dhillon, who was inside the hall when the fight broke out. “We started the meeting at 3 p.m. and it was going smoothly when about two dozen people stormed inside.”

They were wielding hammers, machetes and construction knives, said Dhillon, who lives in Dundas, near Hamilton. There was screaming and yelling as people shoved and pushed to get outside, he added.

“It’s an ongoing dispute among the board members,” said Const. George Tudos of Peel Regional Police, adding that police had been called in earlier. “There was indication that there might be some trouble here.”

This fight comes two weeks after Manjit Mangat, a prominent Brampton lawyer, was stabbed outside the Sikh Lehar Centre, a Sikh temple located barely a kilometre away from the temple at Glidden Rd. Witnesses had said at least two men brandished unsheathed kirpans, the ceremonial dagger worn by baptized Sikhs, triggering a fresh controversy about Sikhs’ right to wear it.

This is a thought / question that I want to share with you. I have heard so many preachers or persons who discourse on Stages of Gurdwaras:

“Recite Name of God, that will be useful for you.” “The person who recites name of God, will be be enjoy Heaven”. “The person who will not recite name of God , will not be saved in this life or the next life”.

My question is What is name of God? Or What is actually reciting the name of God?

As far as my knowledge is concerned I know reciting name of God means You are praising your God.

It means a person who is not praising God will not be blessed by God. What kind of God this is who loves to praise by common people. Moreover a person who does not praise him (God) is not eligible for his blessings.

We have learnt from childhood that “Recite Name”/ “Naam Japo”… God lives in Name… The person who recites Name will get your self beyond the materialistic world.

All these things not have been stated by God him self, these statements are Man made.

I believe Nobody has seen God, It means God is an imaginary object. We all have been getting Scare of this imaginary object, in these statements “If you will not recite Gods name you will be punished after Death or in next birth”.

Again the punishment is an imaginary object After Death or Next Birth (Nobody knows what will happen after death…where will we go or not).

 An Example:

If any holy man (Baba / sant / fakir) will say to any man that If you will not recite name of God you will be get punishment in the age of 60. Then there are 100 percent chances that the Baba / sant will proved fake when that particular man will come to the same baba at the age of 60 to say that he is perfectly fine and living happily.

So, to not to take chances like situation mentioned above, our so called Babas, sants scare us by some thing unreal things like After Death , next Birth and so on.

ਮੈਂ ਕਥਾ ਵਾਚਕਾਂ ਨੂ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਟੇਜਾ ਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਕਹੰਦੇ ਸੁਨ੍ਯਾ ਹੈ “ਰਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਜਪੋ , ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕਮ ਆਵੇਗਾ” , “ਜੋ ਰਬ ਦਾ ਨਾ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਹਨਾ ਦਾ  ਊਪਰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ “, “ਜੋ ਰਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਨਹੀ ਜਪਦੇ ਓਹਨਾ ਦਾ ਇਸ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਓਧਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ “

ਜਿਥੇ ਤਕ ਮੈਨੂ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਰਬ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਊਸਦੀ ਊਸ੍ਤੁਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ , ਊਸਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ ! ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਜੋ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਰਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਤੇ ਊਸ੍ਤੁਤ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਬ ਊਸਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ! ਇਹ ਕਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਰਬ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ  ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਤੇ ਊਸ੍ਤੁਤ ਕਰਵਾਨਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਤੇ ਜੋ ਬੰਦਾ ਊਸਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ੰਸਾ ਤੇ ਊਸ੍ਤੁਤ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਓਹ ਊਸਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਜਾ ਊਸਦੀ ਰਹਮਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਬਲ ਨਹੀ ਹੈ!

ਸਾਨੂ ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਸਿਖਾਯਾ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ …ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਬ ਹੈ…ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਜਾਪੇਗਾ ਊਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਬੇਰਾ  ਪਾਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੈ! ਇਹ ਸਬ ਰਬ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਨਹੀ ਕੇਹਾ ਇਹ ਸਬ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਹੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਕਹ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਕਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ!

ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਰਬ ਨੂ ਕਿਸੀ  ਨੇ ਨਹੀ ਵੇਖੇਯਾ , ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਰਬ ਇਕ ਕਾਲਪਨਿਕ ਸ਼ੇਹ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਨੂ ਇਸ ਕਾਲਪਨਿਕ ਸ਼ੇਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਡਰਾਯਇਆ  ਗਯਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ( ਰਬ ) ਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਨੰ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਸਜਾ ਵੀ ਓਹ ਦਸੀ  ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕੀ ਕਾਲਪਨਿਕ ਹੈ , ਯਾਨੀ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਯਾ ਫੇਰ ਅਗਲੇ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਚ !

ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਾਬਾ, ਕਥਾ ਵਾਚਕ, ਧਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਿਸੀ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਕਵੇ ਕੀ ” ਜੇ ਤੂ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਜ੍ਪੇੰਗਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਦੋਂ ਤੋ ੬੦  ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਊਮਰ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੇਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਨਾ ਜਪਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ ” ਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਓਹ ਬਾਬਾ , ਧਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਕਿਓਂਕਿ ਓਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਪੇਯਾ ਓਹ 60 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਆਯੁ ਵਿਚ ਊਸ ਬਾਬੇ ਯਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਛ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਹੁਣ ਦਸ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਮਨੇ ਭਲਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਖਾਰਾ ਹਾਂ!

ਇਹ ਹੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਸਾਨੂ ਕਾਲਪਨਿਕ ਰਬ, ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਾਂ  ਕੇ ਕਾਲਪਨਿਕ ਸਜਾ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਬਿਠਾ ਕੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੇ ਚਲਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ !

A meeting was called by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages the affairs of Sikh shrines, here Saturday to decide the fate of the Mastuana Gurdwara in Punjab’s Sangrur district, 170 km from Chandigarh,  

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar later said all Sikh organisations and religious groups like Damdami Taksal, Sant Samaj and Dal Khalsa attended the meeting and the Akal Takht decided to demolish those structures of the Mastuana Gurdwara that are similar to the Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple. 

“They have given the responsibility of executing this work to the SGPC. All of us abide by the verdict of Akal Takht,” he told IANS. 

The private shrine that is being built by Mastuana Dera in Sangrur, has upset Sikh leaders and religious organiSations because of its similarity in design with the Golden Temple. 

The SGPC had sent a probe panel to the replica shrine which recorded video evidence and submitted its report, saying that the sect was trying to replicate Sikhism’s holiest shrine.  

The representatives of Mastuana Dera were also present during the meeting and expressed willingness to abide by the final decision of Akal Takht. 

Kanwarpal Sikh, secretary of radical Sikh group Dal Khalsa, said the Mastuana gurdwara’s move was unacceptable and the only option to end this controversy is to demolish the whole structure. 

“There are only two options, either the Akal Takht will direct the SGPC to pull down the structure or we people would ourselves flatten it through kar sewa (community service),” he said. 

The controversial shrine, owned by cash-rich Mastuana Dera headed by Sant Sadhu Singh, has been under construction since 1967. It had provoked similar controversy when its outer shape became apparent in the early 1990s and the then Akal Takht jathedar (head priest) had issued a Hukumnama (religious edict) barring its completion till key structural changes were made. 

The Mastuana sect comprises of Sikh followers, mostly from the lower strata of society. Its main influence is limited to a part of south-west Punjab’s agricultural belt of Malwa. 

Recent attempts to restart work on the incomplete shrine had provoked angry reactions from other Sikh organisations.

In fact not only Punjab but Sikh community as whole no matter where sikhs are living weather Delhi, Haryana and in abroad, Austria, US , Canada, UK etc. facing impact of so called baba, Guru or religious Gurus. We should start thinking why all this is happening and we should go deep in the cause of all this. 

Why we are not with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (SGGSJ) ? 

 Why we prefer some one physically in front of us to bow and to listen ? 

 Why we put more faith on Deh dhari guru than SGGSJ ? 

What we get from Deras that we are not getting from Gurudawars ? 

 Is this babaism is cause of increase in antisocial nature in society ?
